What to do.....

first ive been playing since vanilla and ive always enjoyed dps and even more ive enjoyed topping meters... my question is to all the players that have played and researched moonkins how do yall feel moonkin dps is going to compare against mages, locks , hunters etc ??
id like to play my new troll druid in cata but ive never been in a raid with a moonkin that pulled crazy ass dps.

any thoughts ? please help
You're basically gonna be always slightly behind the pure DPS classes (but not by that much).
honestly though you can generally pull about as much as them if you put forth the effort. Plus gear, will make you top the charts. They have pretty much made the game to where (minus a few specs here and there) you are able to pull your weight in any raid. Its all about how easy it is to do that and how much you like playing that class. Pure DPS being ahead of other classes isnt really true much any more since they started placing everyone on even playing fields and moonkins are just fun to play vice the two button rotation you have right now with your mage :). Ah I kid, but moonkins are definitely different, but if you enjoy playing it then you will get good, and then you can pull the high numbers you need to. It all about how hard or easy it is to play a class and if it suites you.
Play what you love and you will do well, play what's fotm and you'll do adequately because a class is only fotm when it's so easy to pull good numbers that anyone can do it.

Though having played every caster (admittedly not all to end game content) I have to say the Druid community wins by miles.

Numbers always change in WoW. Don't play a specific class for that or you will never have the same main for a month.

As for playing a druid: If you are gonna play a druid, be prepared for people to expect you to have an offspec for heals or tank. It's your toon, and you can do what you want with it, but at least in my experience, it is still expected that you can fill an off role if needed. Kind of the extra burden we carry for being hybrid. Our real "tax", is multiple sets of gear farming.

I will tell you the same I have told countless guidies. Play a druid if you want to play one. Either you will love it or hate it. Don't do it cause its the "cool" thing to do for PvP, or new race, DPS, etc. The thing that makes the druid community great is there are so many that truly love the class. The FotM crowd comes through and trashes the place every few patches, but the faithful just sigh, clean up the mess, and move on.

If you are a druid at heart you will do fine, and will be welcomed accordingly. If not? Reroll, have some complimentary waffles, and move on. No hard feelings.
